NASHUA -- Woody Woodland, a New Hampshire radio icon, has been hired as the Pride's public address announcer.
He will fill the vacancy left by Ken Cail, who had provided the booming, signature voice of Historic Holman Stadium since the Pride's first season in 1998.
A Boston University graduate, Woodland has been behind the microphone before at Holman Stadium. He was both the public address and play-by-play radio announcer of the Nashua Angels and Pirates, former AA teams of the Eastern League in the mid-1980s.
Woodland is also host of the Woody Woodland Show on 1590-AM, WSMN radio in Nashua, a politically focused talk show every weekday morning from 7 to 9 a.m.
"We are extremely lucky to have Woody," said Pride General Manager Chris Hall. "He is so well-respected and is already a part of the history within Nashua baseball."
Hall said Woodland will get some help in completing a season's worth of public address duties from Bob Bates, who will man the microphone during Sunday games and other instances
The Nashua Pride Professional Baseball Club begins its 11th season -- and defense of the Can-Am League title -- on May 22 against the Brockton Rox at Holman Stadium. For tickets or more information, call 603-883-BALL (2255) or visit www.nashuapride.com.
